EMILY + ERICK · GLEN ECHO, MARYLAND
Somewhere between golden and blue.
An evening engagement session at Glen Echo Park, photographed from golden hour into blue hour.
Emily and Erick showed up to Glen Echo Park looking ridiculously cool and very much like themselves.
We started near the end of golden hour, wandering around the park while there was still a little warmth left in the sky. They're both tattooed, effortlessly cool, and incredibly sweet together- which made the contrast with Glen Echo's colorful, nostalgic backdrop feel even better.
There wasn't much need to manufacture anything. We walked, messed around, let them fall into each other naturally, and kept photographing as the evening changed around us

They made this one easy.
FROM GOLDEN HOUR TO BLUE
The last of the warm light disappeared and Glen Echo started to feel completely different.
Blue hour brought cooler tones, deeper shadows, and the lights around the park started doing some of the work for us. Instead of calling it when the sun went down, we kept going, and the photographs got moodier, stranger, and a little more cinematic as it got darker.
It ended up feeling less like two separate looks and more like watching one evening change from beginning to end.
We stayed after sunset.
ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS AT GLEN ECHO PARK
Glen Echo Park is one of those places that already has a personality before you ever bring a camera into it. Its historic amusement park roots, colorful architecture, open spaces, and little pockets of unexpected texture make it a completely different backdrop from the fields and gardens you usually see in engagement photographs.
For Emily and Erick, that was exactly the point. Their tattoos, personal style, and laid-back way of being together didn't need a perfectly manicured backdrop. They needed somewhere with a little character.
We photographed from the end of golden hour into blue hour, which gave us warm evening light at the beginning and cooler, moodier photographs as the park got darker. If you're looking for engagement photos in Maryland that feel more like you than a version of what engagement photos are supposed to look like, that's where I want to start.
Not your average engagement photo location.
GETTING MARRIED IN MARYLAND?
This can be the beginning.
Engagement photos are one part of the story. If you're planning a wedding in Maryland, I'd love to be there for what comes next.
I photograph weddings throughout Maryland and the greater DMV with the same approach, paying attention to the people, the place, the weird little moments, and everything happening around the thing everyone knows they're supposed to be looking at.
